Not so Good
‘Mired in debt, majority of young adults financially dependent on parents: Pew’ (Christian Post, 2/2) This is often a function of Government trying to help which has resulted in a disaster. 9 most feared words “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.” (R. Regan) There is also a spirit of entitlement and a systematic consumerist mentality. There has been a long-time failure to teach and model personal and financial responsibility. It is definitely Pew worthy

Positive Trend
‘Percentage of children living with 2 parents reaches highest level in decades: report’ (Christian Post, 1/16) There has been a trend in behavior and socialization problems with kids increasing in last decade and it seems to be getting worse. Some blame may be attributed to COVID isolation, some to culture decline and perhaps a great deal to the destruction of the family. We are sure some are remaining together because it is better financially in this time, but hopefully for most they believe it is better for all concerned, especially the children

Have a Very Merry Christmas

It’s Back

‘The global resurgence of antisemitism’ (Christian Post, 12/4) As a boomer who grew up in the long shadow of WWII and had parents who fought the evil of the Third Reich and Imperial Japan, we thought that bad illustration would put an end to mankind’s evil to one another and the millennia of persecution of Jews. Imperial Japan’s evil in Asia, most notably China did not take 2nd place to what happened in Europe. Alas, It isn’t so. Walking the dirt paths of West Africa in what turned out to be the middle of the brutal Liberian Civil war showed us personally that humanity was still in sin. The indiscriminate killing, rape, destruction of critical infrastructure ratified my somewhat forgotten theology that fallen human beings are fallen and brutal. The evil that happened on Oct 7th and Hamas’ desire to destroy the Jews and the Jewish homeland is evil.  Anyone who supports Hamas and therefore what they did, the rape, the killing, the brutality, is supporting evil. Calling for the genocide of Jews, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” is evil. The term is not just about the Israeli state, but also the destruction of the Jewish people. We can have discussions about the plight of the “Palestinian” people (descendants of Arab nomads who unfortunately no one wanted in their country) but as human beings we need to do better. Unfortunately, that will not happen until either people come to Jesus, (we are called to evangelize the world) or Jesus comes to establish His kingdom. Maranatha
